As Plêiades, também conhecidas como as Sete Irmãs ou Messier 45, são um aglomerado aberto contendo estrelas quentes do tipo B, de meia-idade, localizadas na constelação de Touro. Está entre os aglomerados de estrelas mais próximos da Terra e é o mais óbvio a olho nu no céu noturno.
As nove estrelas mais brilhantes das Plêiades têm o nome das Sete Irmãs da mitologia Grega: Sterope, Merope, Electra, Maia, Taygeta, Celaeno e Alcyone, junto com seus pais Atlas e Pleione.
A nebulosa de reflexão mais brilhante em M45 é a Nebulosa Merope, que envolve a estrela Merope.

The Pleiades, also known as the Seven Sisters and Messier 45, are an open star cluster containing middle-aged, hot B-type stars located in the constellation of Taurus. It is among the nearest star clusters to Earth and is the cluster most obvious to the naked eye in the night sky.
The nine brightest stars of the Pleiades are named for the Seven Sisters of Greek mythology: Sterope, Merope, Electra, Maia, Taygeta, Celaeno, and Alcyone, along with their parents Atlas and Pleione.
The brightest reflection nebula in M45 is the Merope Nebula, surrounding the star Merope.
