Description

The Triangulum Galaxy (M33, NGC 598) is a spiral galaxy approximately 3 million light-years from Earth in the constellation Triangulum. At over 50,000 light-years in diameter, it is the third-largest member of the Local Group of galaxies, which includes the Milky Way, the Andromeda Galaxy and about 44 other smaller galaxies. It is one of the most distant deep space objects that can be viewed with the naked eye, in very dark skies, which I have seen several times from a dark sky site, and from home with small binoculars. This image shows M33's blue star clusters and pinkish star forming regions along the galaxy's loosely wound spiral arms.
