Description

I caught a quick glimpse (and captured a few minutes of frames) of Comet 46P/Wirtanen one night after closest approach to Earth. It was just visible past the big tree next door, and then the clouds rolled in...

Imaged with a Nikon D750, 75-150 mm Nikon Series E lens at ~75 mm and F/8. Exposures were 10s at ISO400. Stacked using DSS for a total integration time of ~ 1 minute. Processed in Pixinsight: Cropped, gradient removal with DBE, Background Neutralization, Color Calibration, stretched using Histogram Transformation Tool, Curves Transformation, and ACDNR noise reduction.
