Description

The open cluster M35 (NGC 2168) and its companion NGC 2158.

This was a test using my new MGEN together with the "big" scope. As the balance was not very good there was quite a bit of oscillation both in R.A. and in DEC with the standard parameters. But still the MGEN managed to produce quite round stars. The next time I will try to tweak the parameters and I'm pretty sure a third counterweight will be helpful.

All in all the current setup with the 8"-newton, finderscope & guiding camera, EOS 200d with the coma-corrector and the dovetail-bar weights a tiny bit more then 10kg, with is around the limit of the HEQ-5.

The first version was processed without dark frames. The second version was reprocessed after I had the chance to get some temperature-matched dark frames. However the difference was almost non-existent, most likely because the dark current was already very low at around -2°C, so there wasn’t much to subtract.
