Description

The Crescent Nebula is an emission nebula approximately 5,000 light years away from Earth and is 25 light years across. The nebula is resulted form the Wolf-Rayet star located in the middle of the nebula which has thrown off its outer layers. The stellar winds from this star are now blowing the lighter elements once contained in its outer layers forming the amazingly complex structure of Hydrogen and Oxygen seen in the image. The massive central Wolf-Rayet star will eventually explode in a supernova.

I'd like to add more OIII data to this one eventually in hopes of bringing out more of the blue cloud structure surrounding the strong Hydrogen structure in the middle but this will have to wait till next fall as the Crescent Nebula is now setting early in my Michigan skies.
