Description

This is a long-term project I have been working on since the end of November 2018 which is far from complete. I'm hoping to add several more hours of quality data to this image before the M42-M43 season ends, but with the incredibly poor weather we have been having in the Ottawa area I have my doubts that will happen.

In the meantime, I'm posting this partially completed work in progress in order to document the on-going process, and especially so I can see how much interstellar dust an unmodified DSLR camera can pick up over time. The stars will be added back in later, and the core and other details will be addressed near the end of the project.

I am loving my new Sky-Watcher HEQ5 Pro mount and feel very comfortable handling it. I was fortunate to be able to get my guiding down to 1-arc-second RMS and below almost immediately which gives lovely, tight, round stars.

I am still pretty new to all this, and especially to doing an extended project like this, so all advice and critiques are greatly appreciated.

Best regards,

Rudy.
