Description

For this shot of the constellation Orion I made 74 exposures of 58" each at f/5.6 (ISO 3200) with a Canon 70-200mm f/4 lens set at 84mm. Tracking was done by a Fornax Lightrack II. For the Orion Nebula I made several shorter exposures for averaging in order to deal with the excessive brightness. Orion was still fairly low on the horizon when I began the exposures, and there was a lot of atmospheric turbulence, so seeing was not that good. I stacked the raw files in Deep Sky Stacker and imported the resulting 32-bit tiff file into Adobe Photoshop CC2019 for final processing. In the frame are Messier objects M42 (The Orion Nebula) and M43 (De Mairan's Nebula), Orion's Belt, the stars Betelgeuse, Bellatrix, Rigel, and the emission nebula Barnard's Loop.
