Description

Hubble Legacy Archive data. Taken with Hubble's ACS/WFC detectors. A truly magnificent mosaic comprising M42 and M43 in dramatic fashion. If you look closely at the full size image you can see a number of proplyds (ionized protoplanetary disk). There is an especially visible proplyd just to the lower left of the trapezium in this image. The original is reduced 50% from the raw data image size of 18k x 18k pixels.
