Description

Over the holidays, I moved my Celestron Edge11 scope and QHY814 setup over to a remote observatory in West Texas town Maratho called MaRIO. The skies are absolutely stunning over there. My Friend Dhaval supplied an AP900 and Pier and was instrumental in getting this setup done!

Ran into a bunch of issues that crop up with remote imaging.. Loss of mount position, poor seeing, wind, moon, dew (No dew heater yet) and no automated flat collection. I basically try to shoot flat everytime the roof opens at twilight and it has been an interesting challenge. It certainly is another kind of challenge to deal with but the skies are well worth it. You can see Zodiac light quite plainly and Milky way like never before.

This setup has very small FOV and my objective is go after small target. However, for the first one, I figured I should go after one my favorite galaxies . In fact this was the first one I shot after Orion Nebula way back when I started imaging. The target is also very complex with a lot of things going on and is challenging to process with its very bright core containing a lot of dust lane, a bright Ha jets that have pretty nice structure as well.

I started imnaging this from Mid December 2018 and I went with as many L subs as I can . After throwing away a lot with subs,

88 x 10 minute - L subs

19x10 minute - R Subs

41x10 minute - Ha Subs

17x10 minute - G Subs

10x10 minute - B subs

I think the seeing wasnt as good as I was hoping in a lot of subs but I think it still pulled in a lot of data. As a result, the star is a bit larger than I wanted. Mostly it was about 3'' FWHM.

There are lot of faint galaxies littered around the field and the in-your-face look for the galaxy looks pretty interesting I think

I am sure this is only first of many reprocess we all are susceptible to.

I would love to hear C&C (both good and bad). Let me know.
