Description

I saw this interesting obscure structure during my imaging of LBN 438. It is a very faint nebula located in the constellation of Lacerta at a declination of +37 degrees. Like most faint nebula, we do not have a good distance estimate for it. This magnitude 18 nebula has a surface brightness of only 23. It is 10 arc-minutes long. This object is the 440th entry in the Lynds Catalogue of Bright Nebulae.

This is not a spectacular nebula but I think its shape is interesting. I would like to know how such a “3-sided” structure could be formed. But, like many of the mysteries we uncover in these images, I likely will never know. It is probably the result of dust clouds being subjected to stellar winds over long periods of time.
