I think this is my longest project in term of nights, but not in hours. It took 10 clear nights to gather 15 hours of usable data on the Lobster Claw Nebula. I initially intended to double that but the weather disagreed, and it seems I won't have clear nights for the remaining days where this target is visible from here.

Some details about this deep sky object:

Sh2 -157 is a weak emission nebula in the constellation of Cassiopeia, it is located on the arm of Perseus and approximately 11,000 light-years away from Earth. The nebula spans over a region of 212 light-years.

The ring shape is caused by the the stellar wind of several giant stars, while the brighter area appears excited by the light radiation of the stars of spectral class O. Inside there is a very young cluster of stars, which represents the last generation of a star formation process.

The small cluster of stars in the upper left area of the nebula is NGC 7510. On the right side, there is a is a planetary nebula - LBN 537. This region is on the border between constellations of Cepheus and Cassiopeia.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
