Description

Well, after dealing more than 3 weeks with cloudy, rainy or snowy weather, I had the chance to set up my gear last Tuesday and Wednesday for new nights session under the stars and frozen temperature. But…wait a minute…where is the Moon actually? Oh nooooo, first quartal, next to Orion! “ No worries Christophe” I told myself, I just bought the ultimate Moonlight-killer for my DSLR : H-alpha 12nm clip-filter, yeaaah! So, let’s start with this new toy fitted inside the 600D Astrodon. 1st impression : hard to find a bright star to focus on, as the light is centered only to 656 nm and the resulting image very dark. It would be much harder with a 6nm filter, fortunately I did’nt buy that one! But anyway, I was able to reach a good focus and started the imaging session from my garden in suburban area (Bortle 5).

2nd impression : Ha lights are difficult to process!!! I was almost shocked while opening the first attempt made in DSS and stretched in PixInsight with STF! …Wow, how can I process such a “bad” data???

Anyway, after 1 night of imaging and 3 days of processing with lot of frustration aside, I guess I spend reasonable time to achieve my first Ha image I’m not too shamefaced to publish!

It’s still very noisy but the sharpness of details and stars are really better than no-filter images.

Feel free to comment and critic my image, and also share tricks on Ha image I could benefit from experienced Astrobin gurus 😊 During the 2nd night, I captured Orion Nebula...I'm still fighting with the data :-)))

Clear skies to all!
