Description

NGC 2420 is an open star cluster in the constellation of Gemini. It seems to be rarely-imaged, as I could only find a few other examples on Astrobin. I have no idea why I decided to image it – it probably filled in a gap whilst I was waiting for the Heart Nebula to rise - Melotte 15 in Cassiopeia - SHO.

The cluster is around 2 billion years old and is some 6,500 to 8,000 light years away (depending on which source you refer to).

NGC 2420 was photographed between 31 January and 25 February 2019 from our home observatory in the UK.
