First telescope installed at the new ICAstronomy remote hosting site west of Oria, Andalucia, Spain

Description

My remotely operated dual scope is now installed at the new IC Astronomy site west of Oria , Andalucia, Spain

Here is the illustrated story of its installation ....

1. The new IC Astronomy remote hosting site ready enough for the first scope installation

2. Observatory #1 - new home for my scopes

3. The still packed gear boxes unloaded from my car after a 1500 mile journey spanning over 3 days and 4 nights via UK, Belgium, France and Spain

4. Dave of IC Astronomy preparing the pier for the 10 Micron mount

5. My friend Lyndon assembling the 10 Micron mount and dovetail plates

6. The observatory with the roof rolled back

7. The OTAs are now in place

8. Assembling the on-board computer and supporting electronics platform

9. Adding the wiring harnesses. Colin and Dave of IC Astronomy are fitting the roof roll on/off motor

10. The completed rig with cameras and filter wheels now in place

11. The balancing procedure showed up a major problem. The QSI camera hits the pier top when pointing near the zenith ... oops. IC Astronomy will execute plan B in record time ...

12. Colin and Dave preparing the ground for a new tall pier.

13. Newly constructed pier with height extension undergoing leveling. The arc-welder made all the lights in nearby properties flicker in unison!

14. Step wise shifting the gear over to the new pier

15. Final pier installation is now complete. The overall position and height now makes this the best slot in the observatory for overall sky accessibility

16. The installers get a break and a few beers. Tony and Lyndon amongst the almond groves of Andalucia. Now all we have to do is wait for darkness to top out with polar alignment and pointing model building.

17. Its 04:00am the next morning. Polar alignment has been completed. Mount Wizzard has worked its magic and built two pointing models - one for each scope. I optimised the models by hand and before crawling off to bed I checked the autoguider. All good! Scope #2 is now installed on our old pier.

There will be a break now as IC Astronomy install the rest of the scopes and connect up the external internet connectivity.
