Description

Messier 36 is an open cluster in the constellation of Auriga. It is very similar to the much better known Messier 45 or Pleiades cluster, except that at 4340 light years away (versus 135 light years for M45), it is much fainter and less than a tenth in angular diameter as seen from the Earth than the Pleiades. This makes it a nice target for MAS's 3000 mm focal length G scope. The attached image was made by combining six 30 second exposures through a blue filter and 8 each through the red and green filters.

Data acquisition by Tamas Kriska, Agnes Keszler, Jeff Kraehnke, and Arun Hegde. Processed in PixInsight and Adobe Lightroom by Arun Hegde.
