NGC 2175 - Monkeyhead Nebula

This is the first major image taken with the Celestron 8" RASA. I had to get myself the Baader UFC to achieve the correct focal distance for the RASA, my previous filter changer was a bit too thick. I am still not 100% lined up, but it is getting very close. I can recommend the Baader UFC, it is very stable and the drawer system works wonderfully. Especially the changing of filters is easier than my previous one since it leaves some room for the fingers, so accidental touching of the filter is minimized.

I used 2 minute exposures for the RASA to see how much more light it can capture compared to the 4 and 6 inch refractors that I have. Comparing f/2 with f/5.6 gives you roughly 7.8 times more light in the same amount of time, and one can see it in this image.

I was lucky that there were still some nebula out to image, galaxy season is soon in main gear, and those are certainly not the most favorite targets for the RASA, have to dig out my old equipment for those 😊.

All in all, a good first image telling me that there is a lot more out there now to target.

Interesting as well was the comparison of the 2 Hα filters that I have, the Baader 7nm and the Astronomik 12nm.
