****** ENG: more than 30 years ago my first magazine-published deep-sky image was a 20 minutes exposure of M97 & M108 - taken with a Newton 20 cm f/6 and 3M1000 film. Whoever has ever seen that film will remember the terrible green background. My dad bought for himself a copy of that issue of "l'Astronomia" and was very proud :-) To be honest that image was not perfectly in-focus, the star tracking was far from perfect... but geeez... it was late 80s! Today I used 44 frame with a digital camera. The telescope is just a bit bigger, but the results... well, another planet. My dad now can see galaxies directly from heaven, but I'm sure he will like this shot. Ciao, papà.

******* ITA: più di 30 anni fa la mia prima immagine deep-sky pubblicata su una rivista fu una ripresa di M97 e M108 realizzata con 20 minuti di posa con un Newton da 20 cm f/6 e con la 3M1000. Chiunque abbia mai visto quella leggendaria pellicola ricorderà la mostruosa dominante verde! Mio padre comprò una copia de "l'Astronomia" per sè... ed era molto orgoglioso :-) Onestamente l'immagine non era esattamente a fuoco nè inseguita alla perfezione ma... ragazzi, eravamo a fine anni '80! Oggi ho usato un telescopio un po' più grande e una reflex digitale, ma i risultati... un altro pianeta. Papà adesso vede le galassie "in diretta", ma sono certo che anche questa foto gli piacerà. Ciao papà.

Submitted The date and time when you submitted this image for IOTD/TP consideration.	...
Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
