Description

This will likely be my last post for quite a while using my "little scope that could" (Celestron 6SE) - excited to start optimising my C11 for planetary imaging moving forward.

Wanted the last post from my 6SE (before its sabbatical) to be something a little special, so here's my first attempt at producing an extended animation.

The intent was to capture Io transiting across the face of Jupiter - the animation here consists of 30 separate captures of 2 minutes each between 4:49am and 6:34am local time (UT: 2019-02-18 between 20:49 and 22:34). The average number of frames per capture was approx. 2,700.

Due to periodic adjustments of the ADC, the rotational angle of the image did vary somewhat, which I have attempt to align consistently between animation frames. (Could probably do with a bit more tweaking.)

Transparency was not the best and was also variable unfortunately, so the quality of the individual captures varies accordingly (quite obvious in some of the early captures/frames).

Lastly, a request for tips & advice:

The stacking process seems to struggle to define Io in many of the captures and it gets a bit "lost" in the surface features/bands of Jupiter as a result ... any tricks I can try to improve the stacking?
