Description

This picture of m101 was just a makeshift. I was originally taking pictures from rosetta nebular but when it comes near to horizon, I tried to do something useful with the remaining dark sky time.

I just get nearly one and a half our of m101 and did not plan, making anything of it yet. The integrated picture with a quick and dirty image processing looks like Version 'A'.

Then I read about starnet++ and wanted to give it a try. Starnet++ is a tool to remove stars, which based on self learning tensorflow (as far as I understand).

So I first removed the stars from the stretched image, then substract the starless image from the stretched image, processed them individually and put them together with pixelmath. This was quite fast, and I didn't have to hassle around creating fitting starmask, remove ringings, denoising artefacts and so on.

As a downside, NGC 5473 was a little bit corrupted. It seems, that starnet++ interpreted it as a star. I just stamped it out (shame on me), but I hope it's allowed, as this picture was only a proof.

So far I'm quite impressed of starnet++, which could make image processing much more easy.

Starnet++ was invented from Nikita (many thanks to him) and you can find a discription including a link to sourceforge here
