Description

Taken over three nights in early March. The second night was pretty unproductive: thin high clouds made most of the lights unusable. I also sense there is some faint nebulosity that I simply couldn't tease out without either taking a lot more lights or imaging under much darker skies. Nonetheless, for RGB under city lights I'm pleased with the amount of detail that did come through.

M101 is a large spiral galaxy approximately 21 million light-years distant. It is a galaxy's galaxy: approximately twice the diameter of the Milky Way, with roughly a trillion stars and numerous areas of new star generation.
