Description

I went up to the South Downs the other day, to a place called Bignor Hill. Recently, areas of the South Downs have been voted as a dark sky reserve, one of the few in England - it has been given a bronze award. It may be that there are areas darker in the Downs than this, but I have to be honest and say that I was quite disappointed, because it was nowhere near as dark as I was hoping it would be. It is a shame, but certainly better than my back garden! This was taken at f6.3, ISO 800 and at 25s exposure time using my Nikon D800. I tried other options but anything longer created noticeable star trails and the horizonal light pollution became too significant.
