Description

The needle galaxy is one of my favourite targets and happy to finally give it a go myself. Experimenting how faint object can be captured from my heavily light polluted backyard with this rig. Year ago started astrophotography journey with ~100x5" subs of M42 using a simple alt-az mount. Now managed two full nights with nearly 6 hours of integration time using a guided NEQ6 mount. Sky conditions were nearly ideal - new moon, cloudless, calm and warm spring nights, seeing from fair to good.

Guiding was reasonably ok this time, almost all 3 min subs were usable but had to discard half of the 5 min ones. Need to find and eliminate that flex. Hard to get more details in the picture though, need to perfect that collimation and dive deeper in post processing tricks during the long light-polluted summer nights with nothing else to do. Just love this hobby as there's always something more to learn.

Unmodified Canon 1100d @ ISO 1600, Altair GPCAM2 224c guidecamera. Lights: 11x300" + 74x180" + 33x120". Calibration: 40 flats, 20x300" + 20x180" + 20x120" darks, 20 dark flats, 20 bias.
