Description

"Yeah you shouldn't bother using Ritchey–Chrétiens for anything other than deep space objects, just a waste of time." - Paraphrasing some things I have been told about these telescopes.

Okie dokie.

Jokes (or not) aside, now that the Moon is out I guess its time to check out our friendly neighbor! I have a dedicated colour camera for planetary stuff, but I thought why not try out my 290mm mini instead? It's not like the moon needs any colour. It just so happens I had an IR850 filter that came with one of my cameras as well, so I put two and two together and did a little test. This is what I got. I took many more pictures but this is my favourite one. Included is a lightly annotated version.

I also had to bust out the eyepieces (I know, I know) to check it out for myself, and the view was razor sharp! I was expecting trash given the visual reputation of these scopes but I was blown away. Maybe I'm too easy to please.
