Description

This is from a single 0.01-sec exposure in a luminance filter. For processing, I used masks to apply independent stretches to the planets, along with another stretch that was applied to the five moons as a group. Although this may be a somewhat unusual approach to processing, the goal was to try to convey what might be seen at an eyepiece (crudely mimicking the very large dynamic range of the human eye), while also trying to preserve a sense of the relative brightnesses of the moons. Titan is to the right of Saturn, in line with the ring plane. The Galilean moons, in order from left-to-right, are Callisto, Ganymede, Europa, and Io. The plate scale is 0.93"/pixel and the angular size of the image is 19.7' x 11.6'.
