Description

This object is an emission nebula located about 1000 light years away in the constellation of Serpens. The thick dust clouds blot out all of the background stars, leaving just the silhouetted foreground stars which lie between us and the nebula, as well as the diffused starlight from stars embedded in the clouds. The width of the image corresponds to about 7 light years.

I thought I would capture detail of the nebula by using my 130mm scope and focusing on the brightest nebula area, but the region is just too dark to show much detail. The next time I image this area I will use my 85mm for a wider field of view, since the surrounding area is brighter and somewhat more interesting.
