Description

M92 is a large Globular Cluster (Class IV) in the constellation of Hercules and is the dominant object in this image. It is also known as NGC 6341 and is included in several other less popular catalogs. The image is composed with M92 to the left in order to include several notable background galaxies - IC 4645 (dist unk); PGC59931 (dist unk); PGC 59938 (dist 396 mly); and PGC59984 (dist 363 mly). There are many other background galaxies - some of which are in the annotated image. There are other visually apparent background galaxies that are only cataloged in UV and IR surveys (if cataloged at all). M92 is about 26.7 thousand light years distant. The full size image has an image scale of 0.81 arcsec/pixel. Some of the brighter stars and two Quasars are identified in the annotated image.
