Description

I captured this back in February and just got around to reprocessing it. It was my first lunar closeup, so the focus could be better and it is slightly overexposed.

Timing was tough, but I caught the shadows of the mountain peaks on the valley floor. If you look closely, you can see the shadows of the craggy rim inside the crater of Archimedes (the largest crater - partially in shadow). 50% stack of 8900 frames.

Montes Apenninus are a rugged mountain range on the northern part of the Moon's near side. They are named after the Apennine Mountains in Italy. With their formation dating back about 3.9 billion years, Montes Apenninus are still relatively young.
