Description

Here is my horrible image of M68 captured over a few nights between 15-21 April 2020. M68 reaches a max altitude of 10 deg from my location, but actually it's then behind my neighbour's house, so this data was collected over 3 nights when it was closer to 8 deg alt. I had real challenges collecting even this poor data set, with difficulty getting on it during the brief window that it was available and poor focussing, tried both auto focus and manual steps. The green subs in particular were difficult as I kept getting shadows in the frame, either from obs wall, neighbour's house, trees, etc. Hence, it's minimum data just to get an image for my Messier collection. The background is a mess, the core stars are not resolved and the other stars are not much better, so what more can I tell you.....

Sadly this experience confirms that the handful of even lower Messier targets are not going to be available to image from my location, so I will likely never complete the list.....!!

UPDATE March 2024: Exactly the same data, but PixInsight combined with BlurXT shows that it is almost possible to make a silk purse with a cow's ear - ok, so Vers B is still no silk purse, but PI definitely salvaged something from this very poor data.
