Description

ThisAstrobin Debut Object is a group of small galaxies located 0.5 billion light years away in the constellation of Hercules at a declination of +47 degrees. In his Arp catalog, Dr. Arp classified this object into the category of Groups of Galaxies. The field of view here is small, with a field radius of 0.076 degrees.

It looks like the 2 close galaxies are interacting and are connected by a stellar bridge. The largest galaxy in the image, at image center, is MCG+08-31-005. This magnitude 15 elliptical galaxy spans 30 arc-seconds in our apparent view, which corresponds to a diameter of 90,000 light years

The object just below and left of the above galaxy is the magnitude 15 spiral galaxy MCG+08-31-006. The galaxy below and right is the magnitude 16 spiral galaxy MCG+08-31-004. I could find no information on these 2 objects.

The faint glow seen at the bottom left of the image is from the 7th magnitude orange star HD 152238, which is below this field of view.
