Description

More fun with the wide field set up! My two boys watch a lot of dreamworks's how to train your dragon. I have always thought the seagull nebula looks more like one of the dragons from the series. It's also fitting to be a dragon with the premise of the show being a Viking villager who befriends and trains dragons.

This was a quick hitter with limited data due to clouds. It was poor seeing night and wind 12-15 mph, but I still gave it a shot. I did not devote much time to this edit, but still find the results enjoyable.

Nebula Details:

IC 2177 known as the Seagull Nebula (my kids think it is a Dragon from how to train your dragon) is a predominantly hydrogen emission nebula but also has a fair of amount of oxygen emission. The formation is located approximately 3,600 light years from earth in the constellations of Monoceros and Canis Major. The formation includes several open clusters including NGC 2327 seagull’s head, NGC 2335 at the left wing tip, SH2-297 is another emission nebula on the right wing tip, SH2-295 above the right wing.

NGC 2359 Thor's Helmet

Approximately 15,000 light years away in the Milk Way in the Constellation Canis.
The bright Wolf-Rayet Star in the middle of the structure is 280,000 times brighter than our Sun, 16 times more massive, and 1.41 times larger with a surface temperature of 112,000 K (201,140 degrees Fahrenheit. The sun's surface temp is a meager 5,778 K (9947 degrees Fahrenheit).
The main helmet/bumble is molecular debris that is ionized and shocked by the center bright star. The solar winds measure approximately 1500 m/s.
