Description

This object is a massive galaxy trio located 320 million light years away in the constellation of Lynx at a declination of +34 degrees. This galaxy was classified by Dr. Arp into the category of Groups of Galaxies.

NGC 2832 is the magnitude 12 galaxy at center, over 200,000 light years in diameter. It has an unusual structure for an elliptical, with an oblong shape and a bright inner shell. Just below and right of NGC 2832 is its elliptical companion, NGC 2831. I don’t see much interaction here, which is not surprising for these massive ellipticals. Further below and right is the edge-on spiral NGC 2830. I see some disturbance here in the warping of the galaxy disk.

This galaxy trio anchors the 30 galaxy cluster known as Abell 779.
