Description

My initial plan was to take an image with my recent purchase, namely a Takahashi APO. Weather hasn't been friendly in the recent weeks and so I was eager to produce a decent image with the scope. However, it quickly turned out that the optics has an issue which seems to be pinched optics. I'm just hoping to have the issue resolved soon.

Since I didn't want to let the opportunity of good weather pass, I quickly switched scopes and placed my RC on the mount. As the forecast for the near future is bad weather, I chose to collect Ha data only and create a monochrome image. Something which I usually don't do but probably should do more often.

This is what I made out of about three hours of data.

About the object:
The overall nebulous structure is indexed as Cederblad 214 or LBN 581 located approx. 317ly from us in the constellation Cepheus. It contains (only in a 2D world apparently) a nice little open cluster (Berkeley 59) situated in the upper half of the image (you won't miss it). Interestingly, the distance of the cluster is given as 3.3kly which means it's about 10 times the distance of the nebula.

According to SkySafari, this image is a small collection of dedicated dark nebulas, which are indexed in the LM catalogue. I tried to figure out what the LM catalogue is but didn't succeed. Somebody knows about it?

Hope you enjoy.

Clear skies!
