Description

This Astrobin Debut Object is a pair of faint objects both located 90 million light years away in the constellation of Pisces at a declination of +5 degrees.  In his Arp catalog, Dr. Arp classified this object into the category of Double Galaxies.

The lower right object is UGC 1102.  This magnitude 14 object spans about 1.3 arc-minutes in our apparent view and has a diameter of 35,000 light years.  According to SIMBAD, it consists of 2 galaxies – one primarily in the lower half, and one in the upper half.  The two halves do look different to me – the lower half has bright cyan blue clusters, while the upper half is absent of clusters and is more of purple-bluish hue – but whether this is actually two galaxies is tough to say.

The upper left object is UGC 1105. This magnitude 17 object spans about 0.8 arc-minutes in our apparent view and has a diameter of 20,000 light years.

Although these 2 objects appear to be at the same distance from, they do not seem to be interacting.
