Description

Hello Deepsky friends,

finally the Sahara sand has disappeared from the atmosphere and the moon is shining in its full glory. Full moon nights are known to be the more beautiful ones (at least that's the impression I get).

So I dedicated myself again to narrow band photography. This time the focus was on the Rosette Nebula NGC 2237.

The nebula can already be found with binoculars in the constellation Unicorn. In the centre of the nebula is a young star cluster (about 4,000,000 years old) NGC 2244. Its stellar wind creates a hole in the centre of the nebula and the ultraviolet light of the hot stars makes the surrounding nebula glow.

To generate the images I had to be anticyclical on both nights (28.02 to 01.03 and 02.03.21). That is, before the moon rises above the horizon, long exposure times and as the moon rises, reduce the times accordingly. The image was not cosmetically post-processed. Due to the high-frequency seeing (3-3.5), the star images are just tolerable.

One should simply use the precious nights and thus leave as little as possible to chance. Good pre-planning is crucial.

It was fun again and I wish you all health and CS,

Thomas
