Description

Jupiter with volcanic moon Io on Sun 26 Apr 2020 UTC.

First of four WinJUPOS composites on a very humid night following Sunday's showers. I was glad I let the OTA brave the wet weather outside over the weekend. Monday morning imaging proved to be very fruitful with near perfect seeing for the GRS transit.

This view shows Io's pro-Jovian hemisphere 12 minutes past its emergence from behind the planet. Combination of 10,025 frames captured between 3:04 and 3:23 am Canberra time. The GRS exhibits interesting tear drop effect on its western side. The chimney feature is about to be closed again. There are hints of red material in the SEB trailing the storm.

At the time I have not realised that my frame rate was down to 90 from the usual 100+. This meant longer derotation intervals to achieve better signal to noise ratio. I switched to Mars at 4:30. As dawn approached conditions deteriorated prompting me to wrap up the session one hour before sunrise.
