Description

The Helix Nebula (NGC 7293) in the constellation of Aquarius, from 3 nights of imaging last week in Melbourne just after new moon. It certainly helps when the DSO (in this case a planetary nebula which are the remains of an exploded star) is high in the sky. No guiding and no darks/flats/biases applied to this one at this point - just stacked lights.

The outer rings of this still exploding star are quite faint though, so another 4 hours of gathering photons should bring them out. But am very happy with the depth of colour in this processed rendition, it should glow well when printed on aluminium. I have imaged this with RGB (Red, Green, Blue) filters on the front of the cooled CMOS sensor, so this is a true-colour image. Best viewed when brightness on your phone is maxed out.

Luminance: 240x30secs (2 hours) - Bin1x1 T-20C Gain 200

Red: 80x30secs (40mins) - Bin 2x2 T-20C Gain200

Green: 80x30secs (40mins) - Bin 2x2 T-20C Gain200

Blue: 80x30secs (40mins) - Bin 2x2 T-20C Gain200

Total Exposure 4 hours.
