Description

Here is NGC 2903 taken from my backyard over the last few nights. A total of 7 hours of imaging I completed (repeatedly going to bed around or waking up around 3am to tear down my system), in which only 6 hrs and 48 mins were usable (meteroites and satellites/planes ruined the other sub-exposures).

NGC 2903 is a field barred spiral galaxy approximately 80,000 light years wide and located in the constellation LEO 30 million light years away from Earth (or just outside the Earth’s dome and faked by NASA if you’re a flat Earther). It was discovered by William Hershcel in 1784 and somehow missed by Charles Messier during his catalouging of the night sky. It is one of the brightest galaxies in the NGC catalouge. The reason why this galaxy is called a field galaxy is because it is not part of any galaxy cluster and gravitationally isolated. It has a high rate of star formation, which is evident by the thick nebulosity throughout the galaxy and especially in the “hotspot” having it’s own NGC designation as NGC 2905 where most of the star formation is associated with a circumnuclear ring-like structure surrounding the system’s core.

Throughout this shot I obtained; other galaxies are present (one highly evident spiral galaxy is NGC 2916 located in the upper left hand part of the picture and small unamed edge on galaxy below it). The bottom right side of the picture also shows a small star/galaxy cluster region. This is only the half-resolution image if I can manage, I will upload the full resolution version once I figure out how...
