Description

The galaxies M81 and M82 are located about 12 million light-years away in the constellation Ursa Major. Both galaxies have active star forming regions that emit hydrogen-alpha (Ha) radiation.

Two things I learned while processing this image are that my backyard:

1) is dark enough to pick up the foreground integrated flux nebulae (IFN) from our galaxy and

2) is not dark enough to give a good signal in IFN even with 22 hours of luminance data.

While processing I initially enhanced the IFN, then decided that it gave me a headache so I subdued it, and then in the end decided to bring it back out again since I don't get to see it in my images very often.

Thank you for looking and hope you enjoy!
