Description

Jupiter in the early hours of 17 Apr 2019 AEST.

First 9 minute composite integrating recordings between 2:40 and 2:43 am.

Seeing was best in this time period. GRS is approaching the P limb and there's quite a lot of detail visible in high latitudes on both sides of the Equator. Of note is a prominent barge in SSTB and a ghostly, semi-circular feature in the North Polar Region (crossing CM in this view).

Wish I was imaging earlier on as conditions deteriorated as the night went on. Being a workday it was hard for me to dedicate more hours, unfortunately Canberra weekends are not graced by best weather lately.

Trying to work with longer WinJUPOS intervals and better optimised stack ratios, this image combines 4,175 frames. In the end I've used 12 best stacks (out of the nights' total of 23, 30 min recording session) to generate four 9 min composites.
