Description

This is a small spiral galaxy 27 million light years away in the constellation Canes Venatici, where it resides in the sky as a member of the M51 group. This object is noted for having no bar structure and broken detail in 2 loose and flocculent spiral arms.

This is an active galaxy with a bright central nucleus. It is currently unknown whether this galaxy has a super massive black hole at the core, but if it does, the black hole is estimated to have a mass of (8.5±1.9)×10^8 M☉.

Though the flocculent arms only span 49,000 light years, this galaxy holds a prominent stellar halo extending out to 130,000 light years.

This object was very fun to capture. It had its troubles: imaging over four nights and through a nearly full moon, capturing bright and faint detail all in one, and getting 21.34 hours of LRGB data to cooperate. However, it was definitely worth it for a product that, despite many, many hours of frustration, I'm happy to share in the end.
