Description

Located near M3, this sparse globular cluster is a severe test of the resolving power of my RC-8 and my light polluted skies. But according to research done in 2006 by Grilmair and Johnson, it's lackluster appearance is due to its passage through our Milky Way's galactic disk some 50 million years ago that stripped many of its stars that now lie spread out in a long stellar stream along its retrograde orbit. You 'll find even more information on this cluster and many other objects in volume 2 of the Annals of the Deep Sky.
