Description

This image captures 3 tiny interacting galaxies located 180 million light years away in the southern constellation of Hydra. These objects are not well documented and to my knowledge this is the first image of them on Astrobin. They are so obscure that they don't even appear in the Arp catalog.

Although they look small in my image, all 3 of these galaxies are each larger than our Milky Way. The brightest galaxy in the center of the image is elliptical galaxy NGC 5153. The apparent diameter of this galaxy is almost 3 arc-minutes.

Just to the lower right of center is the spiral galaxy NGC 5152, which is being distorted by NGC 5153. In fact, the core of NGC 5152 has been shifted to the left from this distortion. It is surprising to me how distinct and sharp the galaxy arm appears on NGC 5152, almost as if it were painted in.

Above and to the right is the galaxy NGC 5150. This galaxy appears to be an elliptical galaxy at first glance, but closer inspection reveals the hazy arms of a spiral galaxy.
