Description

A giant, inclined and unbarred spiral galaxy some 46 million light years distant in the constellation of Ursa Major. This giant spiral has features similar to the Andromeda Galaxy, and is classified as a prototypical flocculent spiral galaxy.

This galaxy is known for a high concentration of young stars which make up the blue of the disk in the image. It is also home to very few HII regions.

Several faint galaxies in the background have apparent detail in them, my favorite being PGC 26572 in the upper right. It has some absolutely beautiful structure in it.

This is by far the cleanest data set I've ever worked with, and I'm very pleased with the result.
