Description

This photo is based on data gathered by the Hubble's Variable Nebula (NGC 2261) – Community Project at Slooh. The nebula is variable and the project is intended to animate the movements over a six months period. A great many people contributed to the database and I'm grateful to have the opportunity to be part of the data analysis. The object is located in Monoceros and is illuminated by R Mon. Although it was discovered by W. Herschel (1783), it was named after E. Hubble who has extensively studied the changes in the nebula.
