Description

Im Jahr 1981 erschien der "Atlas of the Andromeda Galaxy" vom Kitt Peak - Observatorium, in dem die Kugelsternhaufen unserer Nachbargalaxie mit "G" für globular cluster bezeichnet sind. Einige der "G"-Objekte wurden später als Sterne, Galaxien oder HII-Regionen identifiziert.
Historisch besonders interessant ist der Veränderliche V1, der von Edwin Hubble auf seiner Aufnahme am 2,5 m - Hooker - Spiegel vom 5. Oktober 1923 als Delta Cepheid erkannt wurde. Er bestimmte die Periode zu 31 Tagen und die Entfernung nach der Perioden-Leuchtkraft-Beziehung zu 980.000 Lichtjahren. Walter Baade hat ja später die fehlerhafte Eichung der dabei verwendeten Perioden-Leuchtkraftbeziehung erkannt und die Entfernung "verdoppelt". Aber immerhin war die extragalatische Natur von M31 durch Hubble schon erwiesen.

In 1981 the "Atlas of the Andromeda Galaxy" was published by Kitt Peak - Observatorium, in which the globular clusters of our neighbouring galaxy are marked with "G". Some of the "G"-objects were later identified as stars, galaxies or HII regions.
Of particular historical interest is the variable V1, which was recognised by Edwin Hubble as Delta Cepheid on his photograph of the 2. 5 m Hooker - telescop on 5 October 1923. He determined the period to 31 days and the distance according to the period-luminosity relationship to 980,000 light years. Walter Baade later recognized the incorrect calibration of the period-luminosity relationship used and "doubled" the distance. But at least the extra-galatic nature of M31 was already proven by Hubble.
