Description

2 nights of shooting M51 from 2 locations, my backyard and Spruce Knob Lake, WV. Using Takumar 200mm @ f4 and Canon T6 DSLR (effective focal length 324mm @ f6.48) attached to Celestron CG3 EQ2 mount w/single axis motor drive on RA axis.

26x90" (backyard)
10x45" (spruce knob lake)
8x60" (spruce knob lake)

57m40s total exposure time.

Processed with 10 darks and 10 bias. Will add flats to stack on next revision.

Stacked in DSS, removed stacking artifacts in Photoshop, used RNC Color Stretch and Pixinsight for noise removal/unsharp mask. Still a work in progress; next time I will shoot with f-stop down 2 clicks to help combat the purple fringing on some of the brighter stars.

Just the 90 sec frames. In Pixinsight: I used ABE and Color Calibration, Background Neutralization, Histogram Transformation and Curves Transformation. Then ran 2 passes with Deconvolution and ACDNR/TGVDenoise. Imported into Photoshop, merged 10 layers at varying opacities then did Gradient removal by duplicating the image, gaussian blur and curves shadow adjustment, Apply Image (set to Difference). Saved the result.
