I was testing a new mobile mount, the Rainbow Astro RST-135.

Therefore, the aim of this image was testing this very new mount. I used a color CMOS-camera to keep things easy. The mount weighs only 3.5 kg and can carry 13.5 kg without need for any counterweights, so very handy for travel. It has harmonic drive system.

Unfortunately my ESPRIT 80 did not had auto-focus at the time of making this image (so not everything is as sharp as it should be), but yesterday I installed the Pegasus FocusCube v2 on the ESPRIT 80 which is also looking very nice.

I am very impressed by the tracking from this mount, it seems comparable to my Mesu-Mount 200 which is pretty good. The system is harmonic drive with no backlash at all, that also makes dithering very quick which I like very much. My FWHM plot looked really nice with this mount and also the HFR in SGP was flatlined :-).

I still need to work on my backfocus for the ESPRIT 80 and this image has taken mostly during grey nights.

Working with a color camera again also showed me how much better monochrome is :-).

Hopefully I can use this mount soon in Morocco where I can really see what it can do.

Views by Submitters (available since September 19th, 2023) Every image is assigned to 50% of available Submitters. In the event that at least 80% of them don't view the image before its time in the IOTD/TP process expires, it's assigned to the other 50% of Submitters and the process begins anew.
Promotions by Submitters When 3 distinct Submitters promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for Top Pick status. This requirement, in addition to anonymization of images and distribution to only a subset of them, prevents biases and ensures that the best images are selected.
Promotions by Reviewers When 3 distinct Reviewers promote the image, it moves on to the next stage of the process: evaluation for IOTD status.
Early dismissal Staff members have a lot of images to inspect on a daily basis, and they can dismiss images if they believe they don't meet the requirements for IOTD/TP selection. If an image is dismissed 5 times, it's removed from the process. This streamlines the process and ensures that any bias present in promotions could be overruled by other staff members.
