Description

First subs taken with my first real EQ mount. Lots of learning...long way to go to get anywhere close to the fine folks on AstroBin. :/

First true AP rig…new mount (EQ6-R Pro), new camera (Meade DSI IV color – yes I understand that mono is advised…gotta dance with who [what] you have), HyperStar 4, etc. Same "ole" EdgeHD 8″. Still waiting for guide scope/camera.

Had to remember how to do polar alignments, 3 star alignment, etc. Wow, what a deep pool I threw myself in. :/

Baby steps – 30x 1min subs, no darks, no flats, no bias in SGP, unguided. DSS reg/stack, minor tweaking in Photoshop.

Initial quick noOb Lessons Learned:

1. Have correct settings (There is a difference between +7 & -7) for observation site in HC

2. Rotate OTA 90 to see Polaris

3. Dim Polar scope to 20%

4. Make sure to have fresh batteries in RACI 🙁

5. A SQP profile BEFORE you get on site saves time

6. Park car & it’s lights AWAY from scope while capturing

7. Face laptop/box AWAY from HyperStar/camera

8. Don’t set color camera to 16 bit B&W by accident

9. More subs, more data…

10. Know your sky!
