Description

The hottest Memorial Day Weekend in 100 years! The boys and I got to Deerlick Astronomy Village about 4 pm on Friday and proceeded to set up camp. That night and the next, we imaged Messier 16 (The Eagle Nebula) braving the horseflies that drove my son into fits of terror. If you zoom in, you can see the "Pillars of Creation."

By the way...I'd like to take credit for the clear skies in the Southeast and, unfortunately, also the hot weather. We recently laid about 25 pallets of sod in our backyard and the May long range forecast called for a lot of rain. Once we finished laying the sod, the skies cleared and it hasn't rained since but the sprinklers are running! You're welcome...I'll be happy to accept donations to cover my water bill.

This image represents 6 hours across two nights with a total of 72 light exposures, 5 minutes each, at ISO 1600. Explore Scientific ED127CF, CentralDS CDS-600D cooled DSLR, Skywatcher NEQ6 Pro.
