A small group of beautiful galaxies in Draco, located not to far from more popular objects like the Cat Scratch Galaxy (NGC 5907) or the Spindle Galaxy (M102). This is a small (approximation of a) line of three galaxies, just like another galactic trio in Draco you may be familiar with (a wonderful image of the grouping by Gary Imm can be found
here). The two groupings are of similar apparent brightness in the sky, and I argue that makes this a triplet as well.
The first galaxy I'd like to discuss is the fainter PGC 54376 located around halfway up the image near the right side. With apparent magnitude 15.2, it was tough to pull data out. This galaxy appears around 176 million light years distant from us. It is identified as having morphological number 6, roughly corresponding to a Hubble Type Sc spiral galaxy.
Next comes center stage NGC 5905, a spiral galaxy of type SBb distanced at around 152 million light years away. The spiral arms are more defuse and broken, home to numerous HII regions.
The third galaxy in the Trio is NGC 5908. It is classified as type SAb spiral. This galaxy, at a distance 162 million light years away and located just a few arcminutes away in the sky is likely interacting with 5905. The larger, brighter tidal disruption between the two more prominent arms on that side may even be the fault of NGC 5908.
This was my first image with 512 second exposures, and I think going deeper on this object really helped the final appearance. I think I might experiment with 512 seconds for a while this Summer and see what I can make of it.
